Responding to contemporary socio-ecological crises, our mission is to explore and shape digital and green futures through research, practice, and design together with diverse partners and actors in communities, cities, and societies. DIGTCOM is a research centre for the digital, social, and green transformation of society. As a collective, we engage in core societal challenges through central themes of sustainable futures, urban transformations, civic resilience, and cultural and creative practices. We work through transdisciplinary and participatory approaches – seeing people and technology as the core of our work.

Sustainable Futures

Participatory AI for Alternative Sustainable Futures

Emerging AI technologies are designed based on Westernised values, principles and models of prediction that challenge local participation, agency and empowerment. Addressing the urgent need for humanistic research to drive technological innovation and green transitions, the P-AIA project develops design anthropological approaches to explore and co-design decolonising forms of AI based on diverse local values, knowledges and lifeworlds in Namibia and Denmark.

Urban Transformations

Orchestrating an interoperable sovereign federated Multi-vector Energy data space

Relying on European common standards, the EU-funded OMEGA-X project aims to implement an energy data space. This will include federated infrastructure, data marketplace and service marketplace, involving data sharing between different stakeholders and demonstrating its value for concrete energy use cases while guaranteeing scalability and interoperability with other data space initiatives. This will specifically address the current problem of low availability of data for innovative uses in the energy sector and beyond. OMEGA-X will collaborate with stakeholders to identify where energy-based service improvements and innovation are required, and how OMEGA-X could potentially be used and adopted to address these needs

Civic resilience

Infrastructures and Interfaces of Publics: Journalism for Civic Communication in Urban Space

InfraPublics addresses a gap between journalism studies and smart city research, taking the datafication of urban spaces as an opportunity for journalism to go beyond the “informed citizen” model of its audience. The project maps and evaluates approaches to how journalists, citizens, cities, data providers and civic tech NGOs can work together on a local level to shape infrastructures for civic communication in the connected city.

Sustainable futures

DCODE: Inclusive Digital Futures

Inclusive and sustainable digital futures call for fundamentally new design competences and practices. DCODE combines advances in engineering, social sciences and humanities to provide the necessary connection between human experience (one-to-one relations) and the societal system (end-to-end relations). In doing so, we position the crafting of agency as foundational to digital design today, just like function was critical to industrial design.

Cultural & creative practices

Craft Revitalization Action for Future-proofing the Sustainable Transition

CRAFT-IT4SD aims to activate the CCSI towards the green transition by building on the rich cultural heritage and strong creative traditions which underpin the European CCSI. It is the ambition of CRAFTIT4SD to revitalize knowledge, practices and traditional techniques as shared cultural resources for sustainability as well as spillovers into a new, customer driven and sustainable creative economy, allowing for born-sustainable small and micro-sized enterprises to share climate impact data and flourish via an open source and open data platform.

Urban transitions

Making Use of Circular Economy Strategies in Central Denmark

CD-EDIH aims to bring together all the existing capacities in the region, such as services and infrastructure, to become a one-stop-shop for any small and medium-sized enterprise, mid-cap and public sector organisations that strives for using data-driven intelligence. The hub is based on the strengths and focus of the Central Denmark Region, especially the agriculture and the food industry, manufacturing, and digital technologie, hosting 72.098 companies at all.
