CRAFT-IT4SD 3rd Plenary Meeting in Oulu
On 17 and 18 November, CRAFT-IT4SD partners gathered in Finland to share fresh ideas, spark collaboration, and to get inspiring industry perspectives.
The CRAFT-IT4SD consortium came together in snowy Oulu, Finland, for a vibrant two-day plenary meeting that mixed hands-on workshops, strategic discussions, and inspiring encounters with local innovators. Hosted by Oulu University of Applied Sciences, the gathering highlighted how collaboration between research institutions, creative organisations, and industry players can accelerate sustainable transformation in the craft sector.
Across the two days, partners explored how climate change is reshaping craft-sector business models, with VTT driving an engaging workshop on weaving sustainability into future strategies. Aarhus University sparked lively conversations on strengthening collaboration between project pilots, while Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași shared progress on developing micro-credentials that will help craft professionals build future-ready skills. Work on the project’s Method Playbook—coordinated by VIA University College—also gained momentum, ensuring partners have clear, practical guidance as they roll out the project’s methodologies.
CreativeFED brought an artistic lens into the mix with a session on exhibition planning, prompting partners to imagine how project results could reach wider audiences and create lasting impact. The consortium also received inspirational insights from Finnish companies Brightplus and Vaatelaastari FabPatch, both showcasing inventive, practical approaches to sustainable materials and repair culture.
Throughout the meeting, the Oulu University of Applied Sciences team provided generous support and an energising environment—including visits to the STARTS Lab and spaces that will host the final exhibition in 2026. A trip to the local Taito crafts community added a real-world look at sustainable craft practices already making a difference.
Rather than a strict sequence of activities, what truly defined the meeting was its atmosphere: collaborative, forward-looking, and full of shared purpose. Partners left Oulu with strengthened connections, fresh ideas, and renewed enthusiasm for shaping a more sustainable future for crafts.
